Saturday 8th September 2007
The Society's 165th Annual Ploughing Match took place on Saturday 8th September at Brockley Farm and Midgell Farm, Brockley near Backwell by kind permission of Roger and Steve Fortune and Baber Bros.
There were ploughing competitions for horses, vintage and modern-day tractors. Also hedging classes using traditional hedge-laying methods and mechanical hedge trimming. Classes for the best hay, straw, silage, maize, grain and root vegetables showed the different feedstuffs which are fed to farm animals during the winter months.
Celebrating its 21st year was the Crafts and Produce Show and with entries in art, handicraft, fruit, vegetable, cookery and children's classes the marquee looked stunning. During the day there was a thatching demonstration, rural crafts, trade stands and children's entertainments and Severn Group Young Farmers held a successful fundraising event in the evening.
The Committee would like to thank all those who support the Match - judges, stewards, sponsors and volunteers - without whose help the event couldn't be staged.
This year's Match is on Saturday 13th September - if you would like to take part in either the ploughing match or the handicrafts classes, please email office@nsas.org.uk to request a schedule and entry form. |
