Welcome to the North Somerset Agricultural Society"Promoting agriculture and the countryside to all" The Plough Sunday Service is being held at Christ Church Redhill on 15th January at 4:30pm
The First North Somerset Countryside Day A massive thank you to all who helped to make Countryside Day such a huge success! Sponsors, volunteers, stall holders, children, teachers and assorted helpers. The weather was pretty much perfect, not too hot, not too much sun and no rain! Over 2000 local school children arrived on the site, and were guided around by a fantastic team of nearly 90 volunteers. There were dancing sheep, gun dog puppies, calves, cows, a pig and piglets, goats, chickens and assorted farm machinery. There were a huge number of activities; leather working, corn dolly making, ice cream making, an assault course, creating houses for bugs and bread making among many other things to taste, see, hear smell and do. An enjoyable day was had by all and many people left saying they'd be back again next year! Watch this space! Any lost property, please contact Tim tim@nsas.org.uk. The North Somerset Agricultural Society is, for the first time, holding an educational event for over 2500 local school children. This event is intended to be a fun, hands-on educational event for primary school children. The main theme is 'From Plough to Plate' so following the journey some foodstuffs take from baby or seed to end up on the shop shelf and subsequently as a meal. Pupils will also be introduced to a number of rural crafts such as felt making and dry-stone walling, the society hopes that events will be as interactive and informative as possible. The aim is to leave children with an increased interest and awareness of the origin of their food and other industries which take place in the countryside. Over one hundred members congregated in Wrington Memorial Hall for what turned out to be another fabulous evening of great food prepared by Jo and Debbie, with the band of ladies providing some superb puddings and the bar being attended by Will Keel and Will Parsons propped up by Harriette Lench. The after dinner speaker was Rev Tom Eekin who provided a thoughtful and very entertaining speech. Paul Cook kindly allowed us to use his crockery for the event. Thank you to you all for contributing to a great evening. The Auction of Promises One word describes the auction of promises and that is brilliant! Everybody who helped did a fantastic job, even the auctioneer was not bad!! The barn we used thanks to the Atwell Family was a picture and the food and drink which was kindly donated by numerous businesses was perfect. A huge thank you has to go to the people donating the promises as well as the people attending the event who purchased promises. The event raised over £14,000. The money raised will go towards the funding of the Countryside Day (see seperate page). However the biggest thanks has to go to Freddie Ford who organised the event, well done Freddie, it will be along time until another event like that will be run.
